Unlock Play Potential

8 Keys to Inclusion

By following our 8 Keys to Inclusion, you can design an adaptive play space that goes beyond the standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to gather and engage people of all ages and abilities. From ensuring everyone can use the most exciting piece of equipment on the playground to providing varied levels of challenge, these steps walk you through the process of creating an asset for your entire community.

There’s an ongoing debate in the autism community over the use of identity-first (autistic person) and person-first (person with autism) language. Playworld understands that the choice is a highly personal one, especially for individuals in the autism community. Since there is no language that fits both sides of the debate, Playworld uses a combination of person-first and identity-first language.

Bonds of the Future

Why Create an Inclusive Playground

All children, with or without disabilities, deserve to experience not only the developmental benefits of play, but also the lifelong fun and memories! Our inclusive playground equipment unites everyone in your community, creating meaningful connections that impact generations to come.

Welcoming Every Child

Inclusive vs. Accessible Playgrounds

Not all playgrounds offer the same level of engagement for children of differing abilities. While an accessible playground allows individuals with disabilities to enter and navigate the space, an inclusive playground goes further—intentionally designing for meaningful participation by children of all physical, cognitive, and sensory abilities.
