Bennett Play Depot
In the 19th century, Xenia was one of the largest railroad hubs in the U.S., which significantly contributed to the city’s growth. But many of those historical reminders were stripped away when the town was struck by an F5 tornado in 1974.
A city-wide action plan for more park and recreation opportunities spurred the dream for a railroad themed playground. What Playworld delivered went above and beyond. After extensive historical research and collaboration, we recreated “Bullskin Trace”—the city’s original main street. A custom play structure for kids ages 5-12 mimics the architectural characteristics and industries of Xenia’s original buildings, while a train play structure nearby for ages 2-5 gives a nod to the industry that started it all.
