Playworld introduces industry-first Microsoft Tag Reader at 2010 NRPA Congress and Exposition

Manufacturer Debuts Mobile “Personal Trainer” on ENERGI™ Total Body Fitness System

Imaginative Products ENERGI™, NEOS® and Castle Themed Equipment on Display (Booth #1016)

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. (October 26, 2010) – Playworld, a leading manufacturer of imaginative playground equipment, today announced it is debuting Microsoft Tag technology as part of its ENERGI Total Body Fitness System at the 2010 NRPA Congress and Exposition in Minneapolis.

In addition to ENERGI with Microsoft Tag, Playworld is also featuring its NEOS and Castle themed playground equipment at the conference.

Playworld is the first playground and fitness equipment manufacturer to incorporate Tags into its products. Microsoft Tag utilizes 2D bar code technology to connect real world objects to information and interactive experiences via the Tag Reader app on smartphones.

“We’re excited to introduce Microsoft Tag to parks and recreation directors,” said Matt Miller, CEO of Playworld. “By providing guidance on the safe and proper use of the ENERGI fitness system, the Tags are like having a 24-hour personal trainer. It’s another way Playworld is responding to the specific needs of parks and recreation directors by creating imaginative parks that deliver a long-term return on their community’s investment.”

NRPA conference attendees can experience the new innovation at Playworld’ booth (#1016). After downloading the free Tag Reader app, users scan the Tags with their smartphone to unlock exclusive videos showing the ENERGI fitness system in action.

“We’re excited that Playworld is using Tag to enhance the ENERGI fitness system,” said Bill McQuain, director of Tag Product Management at Microsoft Corp. “Microsoft Tag makes the world around you clickable, and now with the scan of Tag as part of ENERGI, parks will be able to offer a rich interactive experience to the community.”

ENERGI: A fun, fresh-air fitness regimen for the entire community
ENERGI delivers a guided, fat-burning workout that exercises nearly all 600 of the body’s muscles. Using the latest fitness technologies, ENERGI provides a gym-like, personal training experience for a variety of age groups, optimizing the number of people who make use of community parks. The self-contained fitness regimen allows people to engage in exercise while connecting with nature. ENERGI will feature Microsoft Tag technology. Utilizing a smartphone and the Tag Reader app, users scan the Tags to access video demos to ensure they exercise safely and with the proper form for maximum benefit.

At a price point of approximately $15,000, ENERGI is among several new products Playworld will introduce that offer unique play and fitness opportunities at maximum value.

NEOS: The world’s first electronic system for the playground
A crossover between outdoor play and ever-popular video gaming, NEOS brings an entirely new experience to the community. The unique system combines the speed and action of video games with the explosive movement of aerobic exercise. With its flashing lights and engaging sounds, NEOS is a multi-sensory experience that draws crowds with competitive fun while it works the heart and lungs for an invigorating workout.

CASTLE THEMED PRODUCT: Where imagination comes to life
Playworld System’s Castle is an example of the type of themed play products many parks and recreation directors want for their parks. Offering the industry’s most options both in color and realistic experiences, Playworld System’s themed products focus on imaginative play, where kids can reach their highest potential. With equipment like the Castle, children have free reign to take risks and explore roles in the safety of their own imagination.

“We understand that parks and recreation directors are competing with video games, computers and other entertainment sources as they try to differentiate their parks, and get people off the couch and outside into the fresh air,” said Miller. “Our ENERGI, NEOS and Castle themed products are great examples of equipment that truly comes to life once it’s installed in a park setting and allows parks and recreation directors to leave a lasting legacy in their communities.”

NOTE: NRPA attendees are invited to participate in contests at the Playworld booth #1016 for a chance to win prizes. Attendees who participate in a demo with Michelle Simons, the certified trainer who helped develop ENERGI, will be entered for a chance to win a complete system.
